Contracture Management

T
his course addresses contracture management in the long term care environment. Treatment of contractures is explained using custom fitted orthotics in conjunction with common therapy techniques. Orthotic selection and fitting is emphasized including working with wheelchair bound patients.
After completing this course students will be able to:
- To understand the difference between soft tissue and neurologic contractures.
- To be able to identify strategies for quick and thorough screens for contracture management candidates.
- To be able to establish and execute effective treatment plans for clients with contractures.
- To be able to identify strategies for accomplishing improved wheelchair positioning through treatment of contractures, including the use of orthotics.
- To learn how to fit orthotics to provide ongoing treatment of contractures rather than maintenance therapy.
- To understand reimbursement and documentation guidelines as they relate to contracture management.
