This course is the first of a series of online courses and provides the groundwork in understanding the use of needles and injectables. The information presented discusses the traditional views on needle therapy, such as acupuncture, and introduces modern scientific discoveries of the nature of needle locations. The two primary types of needles are discussed, filiform and hypodermic, and their advantages and disadvantages are compared from a clinical approach to their use. An overview of other needling systems is also presented here to expand the participant’s knowledge of clinical applications of needling techniques from different philosophical and scientific perspectives.
After completing this course, the participant will be able to:
• describe the physiological properties of needle points,
• explain why different needles are used in special clinical settings and
• identify the potential risk factors associated with needling techniques.
